I have no doubt that everyone is aware of
Kim Davis the clerk from Kentucky who is refusing to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples on the grounds of her "religious beliefs". In the past, I've written on the issue of
how the Bible did not oppose homosexuality in the original texts, but I did want to draw attention to the obvious hypocrisy of Kim Davis using the Bible as an excuse not to grant same sex marriage licenses on her belief that they are "sinning". This is a clear cut case of cherry picking the Bible because she is prejudiced against the LGBT community. I know that's a bold statement, but follow me, I'm going to explain. This situation begs the question, "If Kim Davis is denying marriage licenses to people she beliefs are sinning, does she deny them to anyone who sins?" I'm going to list some things that most people do or have done that the Bible considers to be sins and ask the question, "Would she deny marriage licenses to people who do these things?" Romans 6:23 states that "...the wages of sin are death", and does not differentiate between sins; the verse puts all sin in the same category. Let's look at some common sins that most people have committed or commit in their day to day life.
Eating

It's fairly easy to see that Kim Davis doesn't turn away people who sin by doing any of the things above. Though I personally do not believe homosexuality to be a sin, it's interesting to see all the things the Bible says are sins that Mrs. Davis probably does not deny marriage licenses on the basis of. This is not a case of "religious freedom", this is a case of bigotry, pure and simple. She is denying marriage licenses because she is prejudiced against people who are gay, not because it is against her religion. If she were truly standing up for her religious beliefs, she would be turning people away left and right because they ate shellfish at Red Lobster last Thursday, because they shave, because they wear mixed fabrics, and so on and so on. It's a shame to see someone making a mockery of our faith because they do not support equality. Reasons such as this are why our faith is losing members in large numbers. It is my hope that in time Christians will begin to act more Christlike and quit with this bigotry nonsense.
